If you’re new to camp, this list will help you prepare for the ins and outs of Caddy Lake. If you’re an experienced camper, this list will bring back all the best memories from last summer. Here we go…
A is for Archery
Caddy Lake Camp has its very own archery range. Archery is a unique staple in the caddy lake experience! Its so much fun plus you feel super cool shooting a bow and arrow.
B is for Bonfires
An essential part of camp are the nightly campfires… Lots of fun is had roasting marshmallows and of course singing lots of camp songs at the top of your lungs! Even Tajar can’t resist making an appearance at these camp fires. Have you ever seen a campfire floating on water? You might just get the chance to experience that too!
A favourite spot at camp is the Craft Cabana up in Jack Pine. Its full of all the craft supplies you can imagine. Don’t be surprised if you come home with a hat completely covered in cute mini crafts (camp hat crafts). Everyone gets to do crafts but if you want to take home some especially cool projects then you can join the crafts club.
D is for Dress Up
Caddy Lake is well equipped with dress up clothes for either drama performances or our fancy dinner nights. Everything from ball gowns to hula skirts to monkey costumes. Digging into the dress up bins always ends in laughter.
E is for Eating
Yes, when at camp the Cook quickly becomes everyone's favourite person. Look forward to waking up to pancakes and bacon in the morning, the famous caddy dip at lunch, and homemade mac n cheese for dinner. Everyone knows that food tastes best at camp. If you join the Cooking Club, you can help make some of the delicious camp desserts and soon you’ll be everyone's favourite person too!
F is for Find the Counsellor
One of our many all-camp games. Learn your way around camp with a game of hide and seek where the counsellors are hidden and you get to find them. Will you be able to outsmart your counsellor?
G is for Glamping
Not everyone loves roughing it in tents with the bugs and mud. That's why this year we're offering GLAMPING ! Who says glamour and camping don’t go together? This year you can have a spa day, high tea, and live in a world full of glitter and girly activities while enjoying the great outdoors. What more could you ask for?
H is for Holidays
Were going to be celebrating as many holidays as possible this year at camp with our 'Let's Celebrate' week. From Christmas to Cinco de Mayo. You’ll have a reason to party everyday of the week.
I is for Ingenious Counsellors
The counsellors at Caddy Lake Camp are amazing! They’re ready to solve any problems you have with their creativity, caring nature and enthusiasm.
Only at camp will you win a competition by putting your empty jello bowl on your head as a hat. yes, at camp being able to slurp jello through a straw is an admirable skill!
K is for Kayaking and Canoeing
We have a great waterfront staff to teach you all about kayaking and canoeing. Along with swimming, there will be canoe lessons each day. You’ll learn to paddle but more importantly you’ll learn how to tip over your boat. On a nice day, maybe you’ll even paddle across the lake to Caddy Landing. If you want to do even more, you can join the kayak club or for a real nature adventure join the Adventure Quencher session to go on an overnight canoe trip!
L is for Learning
At camp you are constantly learning. You’ll be learning just by being in a nature as well as from your fabulous counsellors- everything from canoeing to identifying plants to baking to art to dancing to badge work.
You’re going to leave camp with friends you’ll keep forever! Camp is a one-of-a-kind experience that builds lasting bonds. By the end of camp, I promise your group will feel like one big family.
N is for Never Wanting to Leave
The hardest part of camp is getting on the bus home. Its definitely a bittersweet return to the city. Luckily, there's always the next summer to look forward to.
O is for Outdoor Cooking
Mmmm... the most delicious food is made over an open fire! Learn how to start a fire and how to cook grilled cheese, quesadillas, pizza, and hot dogs in the great outdoors.
P is for Pranks
The Staff love to pull pranks on each other. Last summer there was a kayak in the Waterfront Director's bedroom and the Camp Director's room got a Christmas themed makeover.
Q is for Queen for a Day
At 'Once Upon a Tent' camp maybe you’ll be a queen for a day, or maybe an ogre or a prince… You can to choose your own mystical adventure this week :)
R is for Roasted Marshmallows
What more is there to say?
Every week we have a Lodge sleepover with a fancy dinner banquet, a dance, spa, and movie night. Some nights, Tajar comes to dance too.
T is for Tradition
Caddy has been open for 65+ years so of course Camp is packed with many great traditions, that have been experiences by thousands of girls before you! You can really feel the history when at Caddy Lake Camp. Some of these traditions include hanging out with Tajar (our camp mascot) and doing colours each morning.
U is for Unique
Caddy Lake Camp has a rustic feel you won’t get at other camps! Its one of the only all girls camps and much of the camp has stayed the same over the years giving it a classic camp feel. We leave our cellphones and laptops home when coming to caddy. It gives everyone a real chance to unplug, relax, and refresh. You can live in the moment and really connect to nature.
V is for Variety
Camp is a chance for everyone to try new things. Everyday will be jam packed with a variety of activities. We strive to give campers choices and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and try something new!
End your camp session with a day full of water competitions (campers vs. Counsellors, of course!). Be prepared to cool off with a slip n slide race, drip drip drop, filling up a canoe with water, and a rely race that involves both going in the lake and fancy clothes. The best part of the day is getting to paint your Counsellor and make them walk the plank (aka the dock).
X is for eXperiences
Camp is an experience you’ll never forgot! The fond memories and skills you learn during your many different camp experiences will stay with you forever.
Y is for You Can Do It Atmosphere
We provide an atmosphere where campers feel like they are capable and ready to take on challenges. We continue the Girl Guides of Canada mission to “enable girls to be confident, resourceful and courageous, and to make a difference in the world.”
Sleep time can be the best part of the day. After a long day of sunshine, swimming and outdoor fun, everyone (including the staff) is sure to get a good sleep warm and cozy in their tents.
Do you have any ABC's of your own to add to the list??
