Other popular kids camps have a 1:10 or 1:12 ratio for kids to counselors. This means, they may not have the time to thoroughly teach the campers new skills - like fire building and cooking, as well as doing fun games or even providing adequate attention and safety. The Tim Horton’s Camp has about 475 kids at their mixed gender camp each session!! In our cozy camp, the counselors are able to do a great job of getting to know the girls very well each session and creating a program for THEM specifically. Each session, we let the girls have input to influence the games, crafts, and activities that we focus on for their camp session. Each camp session ends up being specially designed for that set of girls. Further, we have special ‘clubs’ like kitchen creations, drama, kayaking, fishing, crafts, biking, and geo-caching, for girls to choose from, so that the girls get a chance to mix with campers of different ages whom all have the same interest.
Our goal for camp is to stay busy having fun, learning, and being active. With our unique staff skills, the campers will learn many life-long skills. Girl Guides of Canada enables girls to be confident, resourceful and courageous, and to make a difference in the world. Caddy Lake Camp accepts both Guiding Members and non-guiding, so the camp could be a great way to test if your interested in joining Girl Guides during the year, or just to pick up a few of the skills. Caddy Lake Camp not only fosters skill development like kayaking, knots, and cooking but also general independence and character building. More and more kids don’t get to experience nature, and I believe they are really missing a meaningful part of growing up!
Last but not least, Caddy Lake Camp is an all-girl camp that fosters a great ‘we can do it’ atmosphere. There is more girl bonding and comfort and less distraction. We teach the girls how to be a team and encourage strong self-images. Often as children, boys and girls have different developmental needs and interests. Often in classrooms, boys end up as the leaders or competitive ones and girls are often pushed into their ‘typical roles’. With just girls around, the campers get to step into new roles and dynamics that they may not be able to try out at school. Caddy Lake Camp allows for us to focus on the needs specifically of girls at each age. It is a special experience; it has a different feeling than many other camps! Caddy Lake Camp offers a unique experience for young girls to experience nature while building confidence and creating life long friendships.
